We spent the last few days with our family down at Sunset Beach in North Carolina. What great timing it was to plan our trip over the labour day weekend in the USA!

Sunset Beach can only be described as a quintessential American beach. The water is so warm (easily warmer than Fiji - apparently 25 degrees) so you could literally stay in the water all day. The beach house we were staying in was right on the surf and we had great ocean views from the balcony.

We had fun burying our little cousins in the sand and also made lots of sand castles and dinosaurs. We body surfed for hours, enjoyed good home cooked food, puzzled over lots of puzzles with a certain three year old, and had many well-deserved sleep ins. A truly lazy beach holiday.

A little girl came up to Laura on the beach. Laura was talking with my little cousin and the girl looked up at her, recognising that her voice sounded a little bit different. The girl (in a broad southern American accent) said 'Do youuuu awwwlways tawwwlk lyyyyike thaaaaaat?' Talk about lost in translation! A golden moment :)

ReplyDeleteYeah, it was the perfect way to begin our trip. Very relaxing... after being in NYC for a bit over a week now I wouldn't mind taking another dip in the pristine, warm waters of Sunset Beach. I'll just have to wait a few days for the Caribbean... :)
